Last day in Nanchang - Friday

Well we leave the states and so far a rare East Coast earthquake and now a hurricane alert. OY! Be safe all, check in and let me know how you all do.

We all had a huge sleep last night. Howard and Teagan really slept in. Howard is feeling bit better today. I had a little sore throat that has gone away. After breakfast we came back to our room and packed. This took a bit as I was trying to lighten the load, shift things around, and just get organized in general. Our laundry got done and even though it is not very cheap it was still half of what the hotel charges. They did a great job too.

Mary called and said due to the large number of passports this week that they were not done yet at noon as expected. We will leave here and on way to airport pick it up. If something goes really late, I guess Mary will have it mailed down to us in GZ. I really hope it is done.

Off to lunch at the hotel's Chinese restaurant. A bit of lost in translation. You order in a large room where you see everything they can make. I saw uncooked beef slices on cilantro. The lady following us and taking the order said, beef with vegetables. I said ok. It was cooked beef and cilantro with a yummy sauce but CRAZY hot - for me. Howard was fine.so anyway, she followed us around and we picked what looked to be two entrees an two small aps. Also order Teagan noodles. We then get taken upstairs to a private room for eight. We were confused, asked to wait a minute, must be they were expecting the American group that is here. Ok, fired they ere taking us to big dining room. Nope, we were put in a private room for six. Big TV, private bath, way too much staff. We tried to question, again all were lost in translation. We figured, oh well. The food comes, it is amazing amount. Plus fruit course, plus, noodle soup course.......we cancels the rice we asked for........ Too funny. And in the end the bill was not bad. No extra charge for the room. We felt like to dodged a money bullet. And had we known it was so good, we would have been there more often.

Howard and Teagan napping. We leave room around 3:45 to deal with bill and get car. We won't get into next hotel till around 10 p.m. So it will be a long day. Hope Teagan is able to sleep some and does ok on flight. Again, love to all.

No silver spoon for Teagan, it is the gold standard all the way!

The crazy amount of food. We are not very bright Americans. Either we should have learned Mandarin in the last six years or brought a translator ap.

I'm enjoying reading about all of your adventures and I'm glad you guys are feeling better. Have a safe flight and looking forward to hearing about your next day of adventure in China. The photo of Teagan with the noodles is classic! Howard with sleeping Teagan is priceless. And the pavilion looks beautiful.

Thank you for bringing me there a week before we actually go :)

It eases my heart to read and to see the pics :)

Anything you think we SHOULD take with us? Anything you think we can drop?

Not sure if you'll get this in time, but if you have an iPhone or Droid you might be able to get a translator app. Loving the pics & all your wonderful stories on this magnificant (spelling???) journey! xoxoxo Sherri

Ellinor, I put a list of thoughts on Rumor Queen yesterday about Nanchang. It is in the travel section. If you can't get to it, let me know and I can send you more info.

We do not leave for the states until Sept. 2
